Recommendations needed - best AYCE sushi downtown or midtown Toronto

  • 7

I am looking for the Best AYCE sushi downtown or midtown Toronto. Price is not too important, as long as its about $20 - $25 per person for dinner. I am looking for good quality, fresh sushi with a good variety. The location must be TTC accessible.

Thanks.

  1. Personally I like Sushi Bon on College Street. They have a roll I have never encountered anywhere else called the Arctic Roll. Instead of seaweed they wrap it in a rice paper wrapper (like a Vietnamese salad roll) and instead of rice they use tempura bits. There is also salmon, crab, avocado and eel sauce in there. I could make a meal off those alone!!! The AYCE price varies depending on midweek versus weekend but in general if I go I spend just under $28 for AYCE, a glass of white wine, tax and tip included. Admittedly it's mainly new wave sushi, in other words plain nigiri is not on the AYCE menu, but if you don't mind that then it gets my vote. I find that most AYCE places don't have that on the menu anyhow.

    1. Masa in the Comfort Hotel is very, very safe. It has fresh stuff and excellent service, table cloths, subdued setting, no feeling of being rushed.

Food is fine, good standard quality, affordable.

It's pretty hard to find really good materials at the AYCE pricepoint, but Masa does well enough. I've been there six times for lunch only.

Masa used to be good, but the quality and service has gone down hill. Complaints that their rolls and sushi had too much rice, fell on deaf ears. They want to save money by filling you up on rice.

Aji Sai is a better option. It located just up Yonge St, north of the reference library. The sushi is smaller, but fresh and tasty. They also offer tuna, which is rare in a AYCE sushi place. My reco is to get there early for lunch as space is limited, so it fills up fast.

      2. Sushi wise, the best I had was Sushi Baldwin, on Baldwin street. They had fresh scallops and amaebi (botan shrimp). The down side was they didn't have LCBO and limited hot food selection. However, it's been over a year I went last and don't know how good they are now.

lots of choices here .... all totally different

by far my favourite is on college also east of bathurst

          Sushi Island!

        2. Try Asahi on Carlton, just west of Parliament. It is small and quiet and everything made to order.

          1. I'd recommend Echo Sushi, on yonge between davisville and eglinton. Great menu variety, with an all you can eat option.
