My daughter will be bringing her vegetarian boyfriend to thanksgiving dinner. I don't have a problem making some vegetarian dishes, but I need some advice on tofurkey.
My family is a big fan of "Everybody Loves Raymond", and the Thanksgiving episode where Marie makes the turkey shaped tofurkey is one of our favorites. I thought it was a joke; I had no idea there really was a turkey shaped piece of turkey flavored tofu out there, lol! I want to try this, and I know the vegan b/f will enjoy it and be amused by it. So, I need advice on tofurkey. Does anyone have a good recipe for it? I've seen some on the net, but I'm not sure which one to choose. Am I better off just buying it? I've heard Whole Foods carries them. How about the mold? Do I need one, or can I make ir free hand? I've never really worked with tofu, so I don't know which direction to go.
You can buy them at Whole Foods or Trader Joes or look online and see who carries them near you. I love Tofurkey Roasts! I usually baste them during the baking process so that they don't dry out. I've used orange juice and brown sugar and also a basic olive oil and herb glaze. I like to bake root vegetables with it. GOOD LUCK and have fun!!!
