Best restaurants near the Doubletree in Tucson, AZ?

  • 4

I'm going to be in Tucson Wed night - Sun morning this week for a conference and wanted to know if there were any recs for restaurants near the Doubletree on Alvernon and Timrod? We won't have a rental car so the closer the better. We have a wide array of palates in the group and moderately priced ($15-25 entree) is about right.

Thanks!

    1. Unfortunately, Doubletree is on a bit of an island, restaurant-wise. There's the Javalina Cantina attached, and all things considered you could do worse. Sushi Garden is the all-you-can-eat sushi variety, and is pretty mediocre. I remember Old Pueblo Grille being decent but nobody talks about it. After that, you're getting past walking distance in Tucson.

If you can convince to get a taxi, Feast is wonderful and pretty close (though not walking distance) as a few people have mentioned. Otherwise, everywhere short of the top spots are going to be within your price range, especially there. Make your way downtown for Cafe Poca Cosa, it's only a few miles by taxi and it's food you really can't get anywhere else in the nation.

I second the vote for Poca Cosa, and it's worth the cab ride. Feast is only a couple of miles, and most concierges discourage walking that distance, but if you're from NYC or SF, that should be a piece of cake, especially this time of year. (I wouldn't recommend it in the summer.)
