What do you have to have?

What is it that you always have to have on hand, that indulgence that is your favorite thing?
Mine is Saenkanter aged gouda, but I am looking for other great items.

My must have is also a cheese. I am totally addicted to the Brun Uusto baked cheese. It is made by Brunkow Cheese of Wisconsin and I love it. They say it is based on a Finnish cheese, Juustalepia. Warm it up in a skillet and you will know what good is.

Dark chocolate. We never have dessert in the house. A couple squares of dark chocolate are all I need.

Cedarlane stuffed grape leaves. Perfect when I'm rummaging through the fridge, or (drunk) before bed. Salty, bite sized, sooooo yummy. Also cornichons-such a perfect snack.

Cheese, cheese, and more cheese! There are dozens of different cheeses that I love, so what I have on hand varies from week to week. Also, dried cherries. They are how I get through the 10 months of the year when fresh ones aren't in season.

            Definitely cheese!

On a sidenote, I once lived with a roommate who had to have chocolate so much that I would see her half-eaten bars on her nightstand. I mean, I love chocolate just as much as the next person but eating chocolate late at night in bed was just plain gross. Then again, not all of us are vain about our waistlines!

Hmm. I had a popsicle the other night in bed. Gross?

As long as you didn't leave it half eaten on your nightstand. :-)

pistachios! or dill pickle flavored sunflower seeds. Or smoked gouda, or a great stilton. Yeah i'm a bit varied, but i love something i can snack on...

Frozen raspberries. I put them in my water to encourage drinking more of it.

During the summer, I tend to freeze fruit and add them as ice cubes to my cocktails and lemonade. I'll have to try it with water too :-)

Cheap supermarket mozzarella cheese and good peanut butter. A slab of the former smeared with a bit of the latter will sustain me in the gap between the evaporation of lunch and the advent of supper, and it's a good instant remedy for 4 o'clock heartburn as well.

And no mayonnaise in the house is a disaster, even if I don't need it right away.

If you have to have it on hand, it's not an indulgence. It's a staple.
