Manhattanites seeking italian tasting menu Chicago area

Special birthday for a seasoned new yorker - he loves sfoglia/ l'impero.
I can only spend less than $50 per person on a tasting menu- we are totally new to Chicago and I cannot come up with anything.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
The place would also have to offer pescaterian option for one of us.

  1. I don't have any first-hand experience with it, but Terragusto has a tasting menu at around that price point...

Terragusto is excellent. It's outside of the center of the city and it has a nice following for its fresh food, homemade pasta. and pleasant atmosphere. It's BYO.

Another good neighborhood option is Buena Terra, although I don't know that they have a tasting menu.

In addition, all of the restaurants in the Francesca chain may meet your needs.
