Lasowiak Polish deli Derby CT on route 34

javaandjazz Nov 9, 2009 12:19 PM

Went by here yesterday and many days in the past and I keep forgetting about the place. It's very tiny and hard to miss. It's right before St Michaels and next to the fire house on route 34 right before you turn onto the bridge to get onto route 8 or downtown Derby. All kinds of polish food listed on the window. Has anyone tried the food here. I am thining about trying it one of these nights.

I've been to Lasowiak's once -- and I've driven by the place twice a day for I don't know how many years -- and found it kind of frustrating. My husband is half Polish and knows his Polish foods, but we had a tough time getting help in the place. We ended up getting some stuffed cabbage (or "stuff cabbage"); but it was so long ago I couldn't tell you if it was good, bad or indifferent. The place is busy, even with the horrendous parking deal, and the area has a solid Polish population - so they're probably doing something right. It could be, like some other places, that you need to know someone, or say "swordish" or something -- good luck to you in your quest.

If they don't work out for you, you may want to check out (if you haven't already) Polonesz Deli on Route 110 in Shelton, across from Sunnyside School. Much, much easier parking, good food (great pierogi variety), and nice help.

I agree. The parking is tough. We went a few years ago when Miller's in Stratford closed for some Easter kielbasi. Was just ok. Every year we have been trying different Polish deli's for kielbasi and haven't found anything as good as Miller's. Thanks for the heads up on Polonesz. Will give it a try. Yumm Pierogi's.

Thanks, I go by Polonesz all the time driving to and from work everyday. I will check them out sometime.
