Best Babka?

I am new to Toronto (Thornhill, actually) and love cinnamon , walnut, or chocolate babka or yeast-type dough crescents pastry.
I Ilved in Montreal many years ago and Cheskies on Bernard had great babkas. There was also a tiny shop on Cote st. Luc Road near Earnscliffe where the owner baked a fabulous babka; sadly, the owner died and that was the end of it.
We lived in Ottawa until recently where there was no babka available worth eating, only horrible greasy ersatz babka made by Wawel Bakery in Montreal.
Thanks for your suggestions!

I was just about to recommend Haymishe. I'm a big fan of their chocolate buffalo (I'm not sure if that's the same thing as the babka or not).

        1. re: airsey

Is Haymishe's babka still the best babka on Bathurst?

        2. BUMP! Yelp says Haymishe's is temporarily closed til the end of the year.

          Who else got good babka?

Haymishe burned down last year and is supposed to reopen in Spring I believe.

Bakery World, aka Bagel World, makes amazing babkas. Sold at various locations around the city as well Bagel World itself.

Harbord Bakery makes a killer chocolate danish ring. Essentially a babka. A great one.

            1. re: Notorious P.I.G.

              Bagel World's cinnamon is delicious.

              I forgot, What-A-Bagel does a nice chocolate.

                  You bet!

I've seen the Bagel World cinnamon babka around town too, not just at Bagel World.

I love the Cinnamon Babka at Phipp's on Eglinton between Bathurst and Avenue.
They have many terrific offerings actually. They have a really nice hot bar at the back and great bakery wares up front.

And their cinnamon rugelach are also amazing.

I've had the apple and it too was amazing.

                        Will have to try!

My mom loves the chocolate rugelach there. As do I. Haha.

                      2. re: magic

I would eat a boot if it was covered in cinnamon so that rugelach is going to get it.

I'm having company over tomorrow for football and have been trying to come up with a dessert idea.

I'm thinking Cinnamon Babka Bread Pudding w/ Bourbon Sauce.

                            <now where can i get a cinnamon babka??>
