I've had my Benriner for less than two years, and the last time I used it, it didn't slice through the other side of the potato and I had to manually finish the slice... a fresh (albeit, hard) carrot yesterday was painful and slipped away from me enough times that I aborted the mission.

Granted, my potato was a bit long in the tooth, the carrot was pretty hard, and the interchangeable blades have become kinda twisted looking, but I thought this thing was supposed to be able to handle hard root vegetables.

Are my blades dull or can this thing not handle hard veggies? It takes a bit more energy and work than I thought it would, but it seemed to work fine in the beginning, and for some reason I was under the belief that these blades don't need sharpening as the instructions don't mention anything about replacements.

I use it with yukon gold and sweet potatoes for frites and the odd julienned carrot. Am I doing something wrong or do I just need new sharp blades?

I bought it at Tap Phong. I did call them today about replacement blades but they won't be getting any until end of December 2009. I use it pretty frequently, so any solution before that would be appreciated.

Also, another post has advised to use a kevlar glove, available at fishing and tackle stores. Could someone please tell me exactly where to buy one in the GTA? I'd prefer not to pay Williams Sonoma prices. Thanks in advance.
