Hi Everyone:

Looking to take my parents out for my dad''s 70th birthday this coming weekend. Have heard good things about Fascino's and Corso's in Montclair. Is one better than the other? Any other places you may suggest?

I'm coming for the weekend from MA, so I'm not familiar with any of them. What about Blu?

Thanks for any suggestions!

I'd definitely recommend Fascino...esp for a special celebration like this one; the food is terrific and of course, it's BYO (true of most Montclair restaurants).

As much as I love Blu, I'm not 100% sure a 70 year-old would enjoy the minimalist decor or the noise level there. But the food there is spectacular, imo. VERY creative, beautifully presented, and a fantastic value.

I guess it really depends on your dad's taste! Blu also leans heavier on seafood and fish, although there are always other options (duck, beef). They're just two very different restaurants, but I suspect you'll have a good meal at either!

Thanks so much! Would you know anything about Corso 98?

I've eaten at both Corso 98 and Fascino, and prefer Fascino for both food and atmosphere; it's one of our favorites in northern NJ. Blu has good food and is very reasonable, but - as noted by the other poster - noisier and not as pleasant from an ambience pov, particularly for an older couple. If you're looking for other options in the area, we've also dined very well recently at Passione (classic French, and if you go, the chocolate souffle is a fine dessert).

Note that Fascino and Passione are both BYO; AFAIR, so is Corso 98. This is not atypical for good NJ restaurants (in fact, for us it's part of their appeal :) ), just something you need to be aware of. If you're not sure, check with the restaurant.
