Looking for those tongue numbing incidiary Szechuan peppercorns to use in a dish in the next couple of days. I headed over to Dragon Star and Double Dragon oriental food stores in Saint Paul but no luck - they carried regular hot chilies and hot peppers but not these Szechuan peppercorns.

Has anyone been able to locate them in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and are they usually sold dried?

Thanks

Penzey's carries the dried Szechuan peppercorns. They have three locations in the Twin Cities.

I second KTFoley's recommendation. I've purchased the peppercorns elsewhere (it was either United Noodles or Shuang Hur, but i can't which one remember now), but I found the ones at Penzey's (try the Grand Avenue location in St. Paul) to be of higher quality. More tingly. They were dried.

the Wedge has them in bulk from Frontier, local brand that IMO is pretty much on par with Penzey's.
