We've got a sitter tonight and want to go to a bar -in the Western suburbs. We don't have time to go downtown.... and don't want the hastle of paying big bucks just to park a car.

What is still good in Newton, Brookline Wellesley, Natick area? We don't want to do anywere in Needham.. we live in Needham and want to get out of here! We've been to Union St. in Newton plenty of times.. so we're looking for alternatives.

The Washington Sq Tavern in Brookline is quite the scene. It is v. loud. The food is delish, and I love the space. Their sister restaurant is the Beacon St. Tavern on Beacon St. nr St. Mary's. A lot less frenetic. The wings are great at Buff's Pub in Newton Corner. And I've read good things about BOKX 109 in the Hotel Indigo nr. Riverside Station in Newton.

What kind of food are you looking for? YOu could go for the bar at Alta Strada in Wellesley Center- not my favorite but ok Italian food. The new lounge at Blue Ginger in Wellesley is really nice and good- a few tables and the bar- nice food, less expensive than the dining room, tapas style. No reservations taken- go early and you will not need to wait. There is a new restaurant in WEllesley/Lower Falls called Bobby's American Grill. Supposed to have a nice bar. I believe they have opened but you can try to call them- search on the internet. For a good bar in a Chinese restaurant you can't beat Jumbo SEafood in Newton. Comfy bar, tv, good drinks. The bar at the Metropolitan Club on Route 9 in Newton is a scene. Also, the Met Bar and Grille in the Natick Collection is lively. For a quieter bar scene try Sel de la Terre at the Natick Collection. Hope you find a good place.

Bobby's is still not open. The Blue Ginger lounge is fun for a date, but do get there early (6pm on a Friday is great, not sure about Saturday). Sel de la Terre is good, and Cafe Mangal in Wellesley is nice (but bring your own wine). Amarin Thai in Wellesley is also nice and relatively quiet. Also, Kouzina in Waban and Lineage in Brookline. These are some of my preferred date places.
