North Halstead
A couple friends and I will be visiting Chicago the last week of November.
We are looking for any great recs in the North Halstead area. We are open to pretty much any cuisine and price range... something hip and fun would be great. With great food of course.
Thanks!

Halsted is a street that goes north and south. When you say "North," how far north do you mean?

Boystown. Whatever area that encompasses.

You should probably expand the search to both Clark St. and Broadway - almost parallel to Halsted St. on the west and east - between Belmont and Addison because both streets are an easy walk - 5-10 minutes - to Boystown.
"Hip and fun" might take some thought. The Kit Kat at Waveland and Halsted St. might qualify, though I haven't eaten there friends have and they've enjoyed it and the campy nature to the place. Yoshi's Cafe, closer to Belmont St. on Halsted is a long time favorite of many people (including myself) who enjoy good food, service and reasonable prices.
One last thought, just outside, to the North of Boystown on Halsted St. - Hearty Restaurant just opened in the block between Grace St. and Sheridan Rd. It's a restaurant of the "Hearty Boys" who had a restaurant at Roscoe & Halsted St for some years and owned by a couple of guys who had (or still have) a cable tv cooking show. Thanks! How about Chilam Balam or Twist? Are they near Boystown and good?

Twist is on the edge of Boystown, an easy walk of about 15-minutes. Chilam Balam is a 20-minute walk. Both are short, inexpensive taxi rides.

I would not personally recommend Twist. There are much better Tapas restaurants and I found it really really heavy (buttery, oily). I would highly recommend Home Bistro (former Hearty Boys location) at Roscoe and Halsted (and in the heart of boystown.) It's BYOB, super cozy and hip, very friendly and has AMAZING food and desert. The menu changes daily and the chef uses lots of local fresh ingredients.
