Tallahassee's Urbane and Marie Livingston's fall further
...from an already low perch. Urbane last night, almost deserted, admittedly on a Thursday night. Atmosphere cold and distant. One undistinguished app and only 1 of 3 entrees any good. I had the filet, which I almost never order but who wants an antelope burger, and it was pretty good. Overcooked, but still good. Wife's eggplant lasagna was cold and flavorless and daughter's pasta with chicken had so much water that it appeared more soup than pasta dish. Waiter was totally void of personality or spark.
Marie Livingston's at lunch today also mostly deserted. The usually wonderful chopped steak was dry, overcooked, and so tightly packed it tasted like a sponge soaked in worcestershire. Brunswick stew barely at room temperature.
With economy in tailspin and restaurants struggling, why can't they serve food hot and cook something simple and basic like a chopped steak?
Primarily because it's Tallahassee. Here's a novel idea for someone: open a (good) gastropub with (good) craft beer and a (good) wine list in Tallahassee. You will most likely become a wealthy person.
I had to spend the first 16 years of my life in that town, parents are still there and I usually make them come visit me.
