Looking for good marzipan fruit - any ideas?

buttertart Nov 6, 2009 02:03 PM

I need a fairly good quantity of good-quality attractive marzipan fruit to decorate fruitcakes (my mother-in-law's idea of a properly dressed fruitcake leans toward the Della Robbia wreath look). Any sightings? Thanks much.

I have seen impressive (to my novice eyes) marzipan displays at Buono Italia in Chelsea Market. I remember the sample I had being quite good - not too grainy, good almond flavor, not tooth-achingly sweet. That was a while ago, though.
