Casual restaurant to take parents-Vancouver

I am new to Vancouver and my parents are visiting me and my fiance this weekend. They'd like to take us out to dinner but I know they don't want to spend to much. I suggested Vij's since it's in our neigborhood (Fairview/South Granville) but my mom didn't like the website's menu... I think it was too expensive for her. Where would be a good, fun, dinner place that has entrees under $20? Pretty much anywhere in the city would work, although the West side is preferable.

    While the food is not spectacular .. Stellas on Cambie may be an option.. offers fairly decent entrees / tapas for under $20. Great beer selection / casual fun atmosphere.

      I wonder about Les Faux Bourgeois? I actually haven't been as I'm always too late to get a reservation, but the menu looks good and the price seems right. Maybe someone else has a recent experience?

        A friend of mine (and her parents) insist on going to Grub on Main for dinner when they come into town. Looks like a good, funky spot.

        My two top choices would be the Pourhouse and Campagnolo though. Both can be done for under $20, but they're in Gastown and Chinatown/Strathcona respectively.

          If you are willing to go that way, there are quite a few good chain restaurants in your neighborhood that would fit the bill:
          Cactus Club (Granville and Broadway), Earls (Broadway and Fir) and Joey's (On Broadway between Hemlock and Granville). All are dead consistent, offer a nice ambiance, and offer variety of choices under $20.

          A tiny bit further afield is Trattoria Italian Kitchen on West 4th. It offers decent Italian food for a very reasonable price with a nice lively busy atmosphere.

            How about Rangoli's next door? It's the more affordable younger sister of Vij's.

            Otherwise how about...
            La Brasserie (Franco-German fare)
            Cafe Salade de Fruits (French bistro)
            Maenam (modern Thai)
            Campagnolo (rustic(?) Italian)

              I second Salade des Fruits-we had a family dinner there over a month ago and it was so delicious.
