Sorry, a bit personal here, but could you explain the name "omotosando" to me? I know Omotesando in Tokyo, and have lived quite close to there since 1977.

Yeah, it's Omotesando misspelled. I just like the sound of it when they call it out on the subway stop.

I was at Upstairs 2 last night, and one of their dishes was escolar with a chipotle-pumpkin "pot du creme," i.e., a flan. It was an odd dish. The escolar alone tasted too strongly of lemon and the flan alone tasted too strongly of cinnamon. But when I tried them together, the flavors worked. (I will say that my dinner colleague hated the dish with a passion.)

Try Bistro Garden in Studio City --- they typically have seasonal souffles and I believe they have pumpkin around the holidays (they've also had hezelnut, lemon, and chocolate). Give them a call to be sure.
