Kuruma Zushi for Saturday lunch?

I've never been to Kuruma Zushi and am thinking of lunch there tomorrow with two sushi fans-not-experts.

a) if we order the omakase, will we be looking at a mortgage payment for a bill?
b) if we don't order the omakase, is it still worth it?
c) any thoughts on great sushi values in the midtown area that are open for Sat. lunch?

Thanks for your help.

  1. Kurumazushi is the most expensive Japanese restaurant in NYC outside of Masa, and the most expensive sushi restaurant. For dinner, I'm pretty sure their omakase starts at $250 and can skyrocket depending on fish selection; I'm not sure if the lunch omakase is the same price. There are set menus that range widely in prices, from $60 to $150 at dinner, as well as less expensive lunch sets ($20-30). You may be able to set a budget for the omakase, but I think it'll still be very expensive. It should still be worth going even if you don't choose the omakase as the fish quality is absolutely top-notch there.
