Roamntic Dinner w/Incredible Food Downtown? LA Prime?

I am planning a surprise staycation for my boyfriend and I downtown and need a fabulous place for dinner. Since we are staying at the Westin, I figure LA Prime would be the easiest bet but I am not sure about the food, Are there any other places you would recommend nearby with wonderful food and ambiance? My boyfriend is not a huge seafood fan so that rules out Japanese and Water Grill. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  1. Never been to LA Prime, so I can't comment, but I gather it's basically a steak place. If you want to go all-out on a steak downtown, Arnie Morton's or The Palm are available. Personally, I would advocate either Drago Centro or Chaya Downtown, though not the latter so much because there's an emphasis on seafood (although they have other yummy items on the menu). Drago Centro is really nice, though. Romantic, great wine selection. It's REAL Italian. And it's basically across the street from where you're staying.

I was actually thinking of thinking of Drago but didn't know if there was anything else I am missing. We live down the street from Chaya in West Hollywood and Arnie Morton's/The Palm are in our repertoire so I wanted to do something different. I really want this to be a great surprise

While we haven't been you might take a look at some of the comments here about Church & State. This is French bistro food, so steak is sure to be on the menu, plus a lot of other choices that may be of interest to you? I do recall someone saying it is less romantic and more "high energy" in its ambiance however, so that may rule it out for your anniversary if you would perfer more romantic over food?

    2. Another vote for Drago Centro. Or maybe Zucca. To be avoided: Casa.

      1. Stay far far away from LA Prime.

If you want steak with a bit of ambience and want to avoid the chains (e.g. Mortons, Palm, etc.), try La Bistecca in the lobby of the Biltmore.

For non-steakhouse choices, and given your parameters, Drago as previously mentioned would be a good choice, as would Cicada.
