A friend asked for a recommendation of an Asian restaurant with a full bar.

Anh Hong, Chu, Le Cheval, Ozumo, Soi 4, Yoshi's ... am I forgetting any?

China Village in Albany has a full bar. Not sure what the liquor stock looks like but there are a lot of bottles back there.

Trader Vic's in Emeryville?

Oghane? Lots of bottles, maybe not hard liquor though. Burma Superstar? I remember having a good wine at the alameda location, but don't remember full bar. Websites for each are no help.

Well put re CV - "there are a lot of bottles back there" - I would only order the simplest of drinks there, although --- maybe a hidden gem!

I haven't tried everywhere on that list, but Yoshi's makes excellent drinks. Soi 4 would be my second choice - I think they have a good cocktail list, although it's not as much of a highlight as at Yoshi's.

It is highly arguably whether TV's food is asian.

A hidden gem in Montclair Village, Oakland. The owner worked for Trader Ci's, and they make the best Mai Tai ever; definitely worth the trip. Beyond that, the food is good. Love anything sizzling, with meat, tofu, etc. War won ton soup is a favorite. A nice, friendly place, definitely a good bar and the food is good.

granted, the last time I was at Silver Palace in Montclair was at least ten years ago. However, back in the day when I lived in Oakland and my kids were small, we'd go there now and then since it was family friendly. Mostly we'd go for the mai tai's :-) Back then, yes, the mai tais were very good (I sometimes stopped in just to have one at the small bar). And yes, the place is friendly. However, the food was only average Americanized Chinese, at best.

Are you sure Anh Hong has a full bar? When we were there the other day it appeared to me to be all wine bottles (behind a very lovely bar). Website doesn't say.

As I've said before, while I don't love the food, I really do like the drinks at Le Cheval.

Silver Dragon in downtown Oakland has a full bar, not that I am a big fan of the food there either...but every few years, for nostalgia's sake (we ate there back when it was a tiny place across the street, practically every Sunday when I was a kid).
