Jax Beach, that is. Anyone been there? How's the food? Any recommendations? How about prices?

Thanks!

You need to amend your title from "Joe's Crab Shack" to "Crab Shack in Gainesville". Joe's Crab Shack is a chain that serves frozen everything. You won't get any responses to your posting if you leave that headline/title because no one is taking you seriously.

I know that it is a chain, but that's not necessarily awful. However, if the seafood is frozen, it probably is not very good. Never been there and was wondering. Thanks.

Google "Crab Shack Gainesville" and you will see that this is NOT a "Joe's Crab Shack". The title of your posting still proclaims "Joes Crab Shack in Jacksonville" but your link is to the Crab Shack in Gainesville. The establishment you are wanting information about is NOT part of the Joe's Crab Shack operation

Sorry, I didn't realize I had inserted the wrong link. I was, indeed, asking about the one in Jax Beach. I moved to the Beach recently. Sister was down here from SC for a very brief visit, after which she had a 5-hour drive back home. So I wanted to eat close by.

Megin, see above. Also, I don't drink, so was trying to avoid places where drinking is the primary reason for being there and food is an afterthought.

We ended up going to Singleton's. She loved the atmosphere and we were able to snag a table on the deck. However, though I tried to steer her towards the shrimp dishes, she had conch fritters and a crab cake sandwich, neither of which was terrible but also not as good as she had hoped. I had shrimp salad, consisting of at least 1/2 doz. large, whole shrimp in a mayo sauce with chopped egg white, lettuce, a quartered whole tomato, and lots of pickle chips. Fresh and tasty. We both had unsweetened ice tea which was good.

I think you are indeed asking about the place in Jax Beach. I live about 6 miles away and have never been there in an effort to avoid chain restaurants (and therefore support the independents - there are plenty in the area). I have friends that like it though. They like to sit on the ocean, kids on the playground, eat seafood (even if it is frozen).

If you want a REAL crab shack experience, Outback Crab Shack on State Road 13 south of Mandarin (past the Shands River Bridge that leads to Green Cove Springs) is great! I have been eating there since the early 90's when it was a one room shack and Joe ran the show (and therefore there has always been some confusion with the chain) Now it is lots of decking and live music and boats docking and alligator spotting.

5# crawfish (served on a cafeteria tray) and a bucket a beer on a Sunday afternoon - that's good times!
