I've had the less-expensive Cuisinart, the white one, for five years and it still works like a dream.

I can't recommend any cookbook more than David Lebovitz's The Perfect Scoop. You can find a few of his ice cream recipes to try on his Web site.

One of my all-time favorites of his is his fennel ice cream. I just made some last night and served it on top of a pear and apple crisp. Raves all around. The flavor is perfect with fall flavors and it is unexpected.

If you want to try that out, you can find it on Smitten Kitchen (she's the one who inspired me to buy the book in the first place).

i have the Cuisinart with the internal cooling unit. I like it but it is very noisy.

Love Perfect Scoop too -mainly as a great reference. I use it to gauge sugar levels etc when experimenting with flavors.
