My personal pick is Takesushi, being a sushi fan, but I took my parents to Vertical for a very nice dinner before a Leafs Game last March. If you want to go the gastropub route, I'd suggest Beer Bistro. Also, the Irish Embassy has better than average pub food. The Irish lamb stew is quite tasty. I've also had decent mussels there.
