The old JMichaels Tavern in Old Wethersfield has been redone and renamed and is is now serving meals in the $8- $15 range. We enjoyed a burger and a pasta dish for lunch and the appetizers and salads looked interesting too. Can't wait to try it again.

Luck Lou's has the same owner/chef as J Michaels Tavern. I understand that there is a new partner, thus the Lou name, and they've redone the menu. J Michaels was inconsistent in food quality and service. I will be visiting and posting on the revamped, renamed and repainted venue in the near future.

We've been there on a recent weeknight. I didn't know it was being run by the same owner, but the vibe was the same, so I'm not surprised. The place was more crowded, at least in the bar, than was the case in the old J Michaels, where we stopped going when the lack of decent service became enraging rather than merely tedious. That said, the new place is cleaned up, painted differently, and very loud due to the addition of piped in rock music. I found the menu bizarre, hard to navigate due to the odd food titles, and ultimately just okay. My hamburger was fine, my partner's Caesar salad with chicken was remarkably flavorless. Our waitress did yeoman's duty serving the little tables, all occupied, in the bar, navigating around a large standing group of people passing around a baby and drinking (I have a pet peeve with small children in bars). Finally, I find the name, "Lucky Lou's" accompanied by a jaunty fedora (I think), jarring on that beautiful old colonial house, which has been painted green.
