I will be in South Beach for four days later this month and my goal is to have the most amazing tres leches, everyday if possible, during my stay. It is one of my favorite desserts, and since I don't have access to it here in Europe I only want the best. Also, if the best is to be found north of Miami (will be driving at some point to Cape Canaveral) then I will certainly travel for it. Thx!

Don't know if they still have it, but Lario's in South Beach had a very good Tres Leches. I had it there many years ago. Actually, I don't even know if Lario's is still around.

Rose Levy Birnbaum (sp?) has a new book called Heavenly Cakes and the Tres Leches recipe is supposed to be outstanding.

Three Unforgettable Tres Leches Experiences in Miami:

1. Chef Michelle Bernstein’s take on tres leches arrives topped with a rosette of flame-toasted Italian meringue and a dollop of dulce de leche caramel ice cream. The subtle tang of the passion fruit salsa nicely compliments the sweetness of the three milks blend. This dessert is absolutely beautiful (and delicious). http://michysmiami.com/

2. Houston’s signature version of tres leches is like every item on their menu – always a crowd pleaser. Head to the North Miami Beach location, wait for a window seat, order a mojito cocktail and call it a day! http://www.hillstone.com/

3. Los Ranchos’s Steakhouse has been home of Miami’s original tres leches for three generations. Ask any self-respecting tres leches fanatic, “Who makes the best tres leches in Miami?” And the answer is always “Los Ranchos” The Bayside Marketplace location is the most convenient to the beaches. http://www.beststeakinmiami.com/

And here’s my flagrant self-promotion disclaimer: My parents own Cuatro Leches Bakery in Miami, and have been providing tres leches desserts to a collection of restaurants (including several of the Los Ranchos Steakhouses) for almost thirty years. Trust me, they know tres leches. http://www.CuatroLeches.com

When I didn't see any replies the other day I was starting to fear that no good tres leches was to be found in Miami! I see I as wrong. I will do my best to try all of these suggestions, plus I will buy the Heavenly Cakes book. Thank you everyone!
