Well at first I overreacted but then realized the awards are from the Gaslamp business association for Gaslamp places, so not a lot to be expected.

They should really have an award for Best Restaurant Trying NOT to Be a Gaslamp Restaurant

I am working my way through my thoughts on Taste of the Craft last Sunday. Two of the restaurants at the Craft were Stingaree and Jsix, both of which won awards from the lamplighter association. Stingaree offered a grilled lambchop, this was hands down the worst thing I tasted at the Craft. The lamb was tough overcooked and devoid of flavor. I have zero desire to ever venture into Stingaree. Now Jsix was entirily different. They had braised octopus in a light tomato sauce over pasta. It was probably my favorite dish. The octopus was tender, the sauce was flavorful, I had seconds and thirds. Of course it does not hurt to have great product from Catalina Offshore. I guess it just shows that the awards are more hype than any thing else. I would eat at Jsix, Stingaree no.
