I would second Del Taco.

If you like crisscut fries my favorites are Jake's Steaks in the Marina and Carl's Jr. on Market and 7th (I kid you not).

The crinkle fries at Al's Big Burgers in Albany are surprisingly good. It looks dive-y, but the burgers are thick and juicy and the fries are crisp and everything is made to order. Good shakes, too.

Original Red Onion does them. They seemed typical for the genre to me, mealy, I never like them so can't judge. I didn't try Friendly's before they stopped serving them 20+ years ago, so can't compare, etiher.
