I need a dinner rec for this Monday night near Little Valley and Salamanca (Cattaraugus/Western/NY). I have done some preliminary research as follows:

*Googled and found:
-Red Garter Restaurant, "where the old West comes East"
-DiPaolo Ilio, Italian (Blasdell)
  . . .Both closed Mondays

*Searched this Board by:
-Buffalo
-Harpoon Hanna's Raw Bar & Grill (Salamanca)
-The Old Library (Olean)
-Cloud's Cafe (Salamanca)
-Flavor House (Little Valley)
. . . Only found a post for The Old Library

*Reviewed www.cse.buffalo.edu (found link on this Board) - not much for Cattaraugus
*Read jerryc123's posts which were very helpful
*Discovered Attards (Lebanese) rec - thanks for the post, mom2
*Discovered Century 100 and Ho-Sta-Geh recs

Price not an issue. Good wine list a plus. Open to all types of cuisine especially regional ones (Montreal has several African restaurants, Astoria has great Greek food, etc.). I do not eat red meat (menu needs fish, poultry or vegetarian apps/entrees). Atmosphere should be quiet enough so we can have a relaxing, enjoyable dinner. I must be able to get a reservation for Monday.

The Old Library (Olean) sounds like a good possibility if Olean is not too far from Salamanca and Little Valley. The last report was in May 2009. Has anyone been recently? Your experience? Other recs?

I will report back (still behind in Montreal and PR reports).

Thanks.

Attards is out for dinner, looks like more of a lunch place for us. Their dinner menu (at least the chicken entrees) appears to be one-half Lebanese/Greek and one-half Italian. Looks like they are an Italian and Lebanese/Greek restaurant?

Century 100 looks like it might be the Century Manor Grillhouse. Ho-Sta-Geh and Century Manor Grillhouse appear to have similar menus. Has anyone been? How would you compare the two? Ho-Sta-Geh looks like a great warm weather dining destination with the deck and those incredible views.

Good news is Olean is only abour 21 miles from Salamanca and appears to be where the best dining options are.

We ended up at The Old Library for dinner and went to Attards for lunch.

Attards has been in Olean for about 36 years and the people were so nice and friendly there. The reason the menu is Italian and Lebanese is because the owners are Italian and Lebanese. We saw three small flags from Lebanon, America and Italy. The tin ceiling looked original. Counter in back if you just want a quick lunch. Atmosphere good for lunch or a casual dinner. Now on to the food:

*SO had a huge, hand pressed Greek burger with spinach, feta, olives and tzatziki at our server's suggestion. Cooked perfectly, a "real" burger on a very good French bread roll. French fries okay, nothing special.
*I had the chicken souvlaki. It was okay. Tomatoes were very good, not the usual experience this time of year. It was kind of strange since it was wrapped in saran wrap and not paper. Not as messy as usual, maybe because of the hummus?

We would definitely go back to Attards for lunch.

We went to The Old Library for dinner. Service was very good. We nibbled on cheese spread and crackers and looked at the wine list. We had a bottle of Stag's Leap and the following:

APPETIZER

*Fried parmesan artichoke hearts stuffed with cream and parmesan with a side of tzatziki. Very good. Everything is better fried :)

ENTREES

*SO had the bossa (a Vietnamese fish) special. I had a taste and it was good.
*I had the Asian ginger chicken - sauteed chicken with a delicious spicy chili ginger sauce and a medley of fresh Asian vegetables and a wild rice side. Didn't care for the cumin in the wild rice. Otherwise, good. Especially the chili ginger sauce - loved it.

We had coffee (no espresso available) and shared a dessert.

Chef's Bistro also looked interesting. Unfortunately they close at 4 PM on Mondays. If you are in the Salamanca, Little Valley, etc. (Western NY) area Olean is only about 20-30 minutes away and has the best dining options.
