A little help please!

Some background: I'd like to get some bacon peanut brittle for DH the bacon fiend, maybe to put on top of his birthday present. I've heard about the brittle from the Redhead and about brittle made by Sir Francis Bacon (at Dean & DeLuca). Problem is I'm a vegetarian and so won't be comparison-tasting these peanut brittles any time soon!

So ... have you had either/both of these? Are they good, great, worth a trip out of the way to purchase some? If you've had both, how do they compare?

Thanks for any assistance.

ive only had the one at the redhead...and its misleading...its basically roasted peanuts with tiny sprinkles of bacon...probably the one think id avoid next time i go back.

i like the restaurant quite a bit though.

id recommend the bacon chocolate bar at vosges on spring...very yummy.

I totally agree with sam1! The bacon brittle from the Redhead is way overhyped. Barely any bacon at all. I can't speak for the Dean and Deluca version, never had it.

Roasted peanuts with bacon sprinkles. Hmmm, does that mean it's not really very sweet, like most peanut brittle is?

I so wanted to get DH the bacon chocolate when I read about it. Alas, he doesn't eat chocolate. :(

Yeah, the "bacon brittle" at Redhead is not really a brittle at all. I have no idea why they call it that.

I'll chime in and agree that the Bacon Peanut Brittle at the Redhead is not really a brittle at all. That being said, I found it quite addictive.

It's more like loose peanuts that have been coated in a simply syrup and let dry, then tossed with finely chopped pieces of bacon.

I totally agree. It's not candy-- and it's definitely not "brittle." It's more like a savory/sweet bar snack. And yes, it's highly addictive. I love it, personally.

I haven't had the stuff from Sir Francis Bacon. But really, would it hurt so much to get DH both for his birthday? :-) Then he can do a side-by-side comparison.

You know, I'll probably do that. Or maybe get some of both for holiday festivities and let all the carnivores decide.

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone.

Agreed re: Redhead. Its more like honey roasted peanuts with very tiny pieces of bacon. The bacon was almost a throwaway, non-existant factor in the product. I got it once and never again.

I guess I'll chime in here and say.... WHAT????? As someone who's had the peanuts at Redhead maybe 200 or so times (since before they started even serving their Thursday night dinners, which was before they became a menu restaurant) I'm sitting here wondering if I need to report special treatment when talking about this place, since my bowls (& jars) of peanuts have always had many chewy pieces (not crumbs) of bacon. And, yes, it's not a piece of brittle but a bowl/jar of peanuts with both bacon and brittle mixed in (& some mild heat). After this many times, I guess I'm safe in saying that it's addictive and one of my favorite sides to the jala-pina that Rob created for Centrico and now makes at Redhead.
