<content>i dont know who else to ask.
at the risk of being tarred a neophyte, let me just say i have been working at it for a long time. family in park slope since the 60's and friends in midtown forever.
i have stood in the rain enduring dom's glacial pace and get it. but like going to mecca, its not for every trip.
i got out of line at lombardis when i realized the couple behind me were from ohio.
my bill at co. stunned me when i realized i was still hungry.
a co workers recount of a final tab at U.P.N. actually made me laugh out loud.
keep the "artisanal", the hip spots, the ink and the attitude. i dont want to spend a weeks pay.
i want pizza.
john's on bleeker is close and has captured plenty of my dollars.
then, on a recommendation, i walked into luigi's pizza :
686 5th Ave
(between 20th St &amp; 21st St)
Brooklyn, NY 11215
the owner was bellowing at the help, took my order without looking at me, and when i asked if he would cook it "well done" he stopped mid sentence, looked at me and sized me up to see if i was one of those "gentrifying bastards" and said
"where are you from?".....uh oh.
"boston." i answer.
"what brought you in here ?" .....think..
"fate?" big laugh..whew!
phenomenal pie. great joint. no lines. didnt feel like i had been in a prison shower as i paid for stuffing myself. pizza for breakfast.
give me more of same, i know you are out there.

<content>Great post. I'm going to try Luigi's simply because I like the way you write.
I am a DiFara fanatic, but I am actually getting sick of the line to the point that I am not going more than once every few months. I used to go a few times a WEEK. I can't take it anymore. I am with you on the artisanal scams and overpriced just so-so places. Yes, good god, just give me some great pizza and keep the ideology to yourself (Una).</content>

this place is not going to change your life, especially if you are a dom devotee. but lets face it, he cant do it much longer. then where does one go?
my fear is not for the high end places. in the boston area, on a good day, there is a quite fair pie at gran gusto and there will always be a line at regina's.
there will always (hopefully) be a spot for the few.
its the next level my fear awaits.
a brutal way to make a living, it seems the "workaday" pizziaolo is a vanishing breed.
i am trying to find them before they disappear.
here, if you speak kindly, the sicilian gods can be mollified by the boys at imperial pizza in brighton but overall its a tough town for a decent pie.
so i look to the south.
maybe people are unwilling to let "their' place be discovered, but this is how a lot of joints go out of buisness. let me try them. i will be quiet and respectful and read my book in the back.
sure , the average slice place in queens still beats all but the top tier in most other towns in america. but i have also had some pretty grim pizza in the tri state area in the past ten years. stop this madness, where are the decent pies? let me know.

<content>people looked at us askew when the 5-boro pizza tour listed them as the tops of brooklyn. More and more, people come to me and tell me we were right.

I think you may be right about the pizza overload of posts. but who cares? I like it. </content>
