Stokes' Resturant in Monterey has closed

I was going to make a reservation for Thanksgiving dinner, and instead heard a recording thanking everyone for their support over the last thirteen and a half years. These are tough times...

Heidi, thanks for the update. I'm surprised they didn't hold out until after the holidays. Things could have picked up during that time, I'd think. Sure loved the looks of their site, great old building.

It is not as straight forward as closing due to the economy. Rumor locally is that the building they were in was sold and they were unable to come to terms with the new owners of the building.

Then, it's possible that it will remain a restaurant. Please keep us informed as to what happens, MRY.

That's what I am hearing - a new restaurant in the same place... I'll let you know when and if something opens there...
