My 7th wedding anniversary is on Monday 11/30. After telling my husband what a great meal we would enjoy at Commis, and showing him the sample menu & feedback on CH, I found that Commis is closed on Mondays. My first instinct was to have our dinner at Commis on Sunday. But after giving it some thought, I really would like to have a nice meal on our actual anniversary. We have the day off and don't mind driving, so the possibilities are open. Other places that I was looking at, that are unfortunately closed Mondays: Acquerello, the dining room at the Ritz, and closer to home: Manresa, Chez TJ, Trevese. So what does that leave me with? Downstairs Mondays at Chez Panisse, Bix, Ame, Bacar, Perbacco, SPQR? (Incanto is out as we're going there with friends 2 weeks earlier.) We're easy to please, no dietary restrictions, and the place doesn't necessarily have to be an "occassion" restaurant. I would say that the quality of the food matters most. San Francisco, Berkeley/Oakland, the Peninsula and the South Bay are all fair game. I know my request is kind of broad, but I would really appreciate your help. Thanks a lot.

Rivoli is another Monday option, as is Sea Salt (along with the rest of the Krikorian empire). They are Monday standbys for us. Most of your Monday night options are pretty loud and casual, which might not be suited to your occasion. Quietest option is probably the back room at A Cote, but I'm not certain they'd use it on a slow Monday. Monday options in the City include Ame, Boulevard, Chez Spencer, La Folie, and Range.

As you indicate, Lalime's is another Monday night option. My mom recently celebrated her 70th birthday there and it turned out to be a good place for a small celebration. Most of us had the tasting menu. I often find the mains there sort of boring, so that was a nice change -- though it was actually too much food and the desserts were strange.

I'm interested in this too as my birthday falls on a Monday this year. In the Peninsula / South Bay, both Village Pub and Sakoon are open for dinner on Monday.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! I have menus to look up and decisions to make.

I don't think Quince is open on Mondays. Checked on opentable and nothing available. Village Pub is tempting because it is a shorter drive, I will have to see what reviews the board turns up. More casual places are fine too, doesn't have to be "romantic". (If my husband were writing this review, would he say otherwise?)
