Has anyone got a good uptodate list of shops where one can buy sticky (glutinous) rice, especially in the western 'burbs? According to phone calls, it's not available @ Whole F, nor at my local natural foods store.

Surprised Whole Foods doesn't carry it. "Sweet rice" is another common label. I get mine at Asian supermarkets like C-Mart and Hong Kong Supermarket. H-Mart in Burlington will certainly have it.

Is it safe to assume that you are looking for Chinese-style white sticky rice? There are other varieties, such as Thai white. I have also seen brown and even black sticky rice, though the last one only recently at H-Mart.

If it is Chinese white sticky rice you are seeking, you will find it at any Chinese-centric supermarket (also highly likely at Vietnamese and Thai-centric, but look out for the Thai sticky rice, which is somewhat different). Oh, and at H-Mart, which has more varieties of rice than I have seen anywhere else.

Thanks for the suggestions. Probably can't make it to H-Mart today, but will try to get up there on the weekend. Lots of mangoes in the kitchen made me want to make Thai Sticky Rice w Mangoes for dessert tonight. I'll have to improvise!

What towns are easy for you to get to in the burbs? Most markets have it labeled as Sweet Rice. I know of places in Chelmsford, Littleton, Lowell, Burlington, Acton...

In Littleton there is a good size Chinese market right in the common on rt 110. Its called New Oriental Supermarket and is 476 King St
I have bought it there before but you might want to call and confirm they have it first.
In Acton (actually west acton) there is a small market, cant recall the name but its right in front of the Commuter rail station on rt 27. Again i would call and confirm they have it as its a small place.

Id try the littleton one 1st, much larger place.
