buying sushi grade tuna - Plymouth area?

  • 2

Hi Everyone

I'm going to be in Plymouth this weekend and am looking for a place where I can buy sushi grade tuna; I'm going to be making a carpaccio, so it really should be a high quality place. I'm not familiar with the fish markets in the area. Surrounding towns are fine like Duxbury, Kingston, Hanover, Marshfield, etc. I also need to get oysters (serve raw) and scallops; I'd imagine that since I am in that area that there should at least be a place.

I live in Boston and am used to going to New Deal Fish Market, so that gives you an idea of what I'm looking for. The only thread I found on this topic talked about places North and in Boston.

Thanks!

  1. Depending upon how far south in Plymouth you are there is Joe's in Sandwich on the Canal. It is about 10 minutes from the bridge.

    1. Snug Harbor Fish Company in Duxbury sells Island creek oysters (Dux local oyster), scallops, and tuna. Not sushi grade tuna, but then that's almost impossible to buy in Boston too, I'd say they have the next grade down from Sushi. A phone call a day ahead might be a good idea as well. It's a bit off the beaten path but reliably good.

In Plymouth the fish at "The Market" located in Pine Hills developement has been very good in my experience but I'd call to make sure they have what you need, these places are small compared to what your used to. "The Market" uses Cap'n Mardens a highly regarded supplier and I'd say "The Market" is similar to a Whole Foods and I'd imagine if you pre-paid they'd order you whatever you wanted.
