I think the food at Mesa Grill is much better than Bar Americain. I've had very average/subpar meals at Bar Americain. Though the space is nicer.

I had very subpar food at both places. If I HAD to choose, I would pick Mesa.

I think the food at these two restaurants are different. Mesa Grill reminded me of bolder flavors with more Latin roots. While Bar Americain reminded me of a steakhouse-type feel. With that said, although both were fine, I thought Mesa Grill was better just because they had more interesting dishes.

I agree with tastyeating. We prefer Mesa Grill. (Disclaimer: Bobby Flay is a generous supporter to my wife's charity.) We always have a nice meal, good drinks and excellent service. I have to say lunch is usually better, why? don't know, less harried?

Bar Americain is tired, nothing exciting on inspiring about it. I've heard better things about Mesa Grill though never been myself.

bar americain gets its lumps on this board. i like it. i like sitting at the bar, sipping a martini and waiting for my wife to scoot over after work. the seafood cocktails are pretty good. so too the hanger steak. moules frites come with a tasty sauce and the fries are above average. the barkeeps and wait staff are a pleasure to deal with.

I prefer Bar Americain too. Mesa Grill is good, but the food is a bit too fussy for me (i.e too many ingredients and a bit too rich).

I like Bar Americain better too, and agree that their bar is a great place to sit with a martini and people-watch.

I enjoyed both but definitely think Mesa Grill is much better and more interesting.

Glad to hear that Mesa Grill is still worth visiting. My parents are coming in town next week and Mom is really wanting to go there. Any must haves or favorites?

Mesa Grill has excellent drinks, but the food was not great....We shared the duo tartars and they were so spicy that we couldn't taste the difference! What really did it for me though was the black hair on my $30 seared tuna entree...inexcusable.

Bar Americain does doesn't have the amazing margaritas, but the food is really excellent. I think Mesa has a better vibe for a fun night out, but I'd pick Rosa Mexicano before Mesa...

They have such different vibes though, so they are quite hard to compare.

Wondering if this place is kid friendly? I have some friends coming into the city on Sunday, and they want to eat here. But I don't have a sitter and have to drag my 2 kids along.
