Recently took the lovely train ride to Montreal and had some very fine food.

We loved Binarie, went for breakfast and had the meat pie with the eggs & beans.

We still liked Au Pied du Couchon but thought the prices had become pretty outrageous. Still, the maple syrup pie with homemade ice cream was wonderful.

Speaking of which, we also loved the maple syrup pie we bought at Jean Talon Market to take home.

We loved our coffee & pastry in Premiere Moisson (we went to the one on Sherbrooke, west of Crescent)

We checked out Viateur Bagels for lunch but the place was kind of smelly with lots of flour in the air so we walked over to the Main (St Laurent) to eat instead. We soon came to a Chilean place, quite simple and nice, on the east side of the street, and had a chacarero, shades of Boston. Very good, and lovely service too.

We had an OK shwarma at Bouston on Crescent the night we got in.

We had quite good chai latte at Second Cup.

We had one bad meal, in Chinatown; don't remember the name of the place but we just walked in because we were tired and wanted to sit down. Made the mistake of ordering Thai-ish dishes; they were awful. Should have had pho elsewhere.

But otherwise, everything very fine, foodwise.

FYI, we (Montrealers) don't usually eat at St-Viateur (or Fairmont) Bagels, it's a take-out place... I hope you bought some bagel nonetheless!

Thanks for correcting my typos and poor spelling from memory. But note: On the side of this page, there is a link to Chilenita on Napoleon. I believe that is their other place, more fast foodish/takeout, in the Plateau. The one we went to was definitely on Rue St-Laurent and was a sit down place (though admittedly simple) with nice service, did not seem fast foodish to us.

Yes, there is more than one location of Chilenita. Unfortunately chowhound automatically put that link in my post. I'm not sure how to preven that from happening.
