Thai - Khao Man Gai (Chicken and Rice) in the Bay Area?

  • 7

Does anyone have a good restaurant to eat this at? I've eaten it in Thailand, Thai Town in LA, Nong's Khao Man Gai in Portland, but I can't seem to find it in the Bay Area (where I live) to satisfy the craving! :( Simple dish but yummy.

Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

  1. This is not an especially rare dish around here. I know they have it at the well-regarded Lers Ros and Thai House Express. Another post suggests Thai Thai in the Financial district. In the East Bay I've seen it at Thai Noodle (berkeley), Boat Noodle House (berkeley), and Sa Wooei (El Cerrito). The latter one I have had many times, and it is good, the rice especially flavorful. I am almost certain that they have it a Chai Thai in Oakland, too. Try searching alternate spellings Kao Mun Gai, Kao Mun Kai and Khao Mun Gai..

Thanks much for the suggestions- I think I'll try out Thai Thai tomorrow since I can walk there at lunch!

I tried to do a few searches but came up empty. Good idea on alternate spellings.

That's CHAI Thai in Oakland, not THAI Thai in San Francisco. International (14th Ave.) at E. 6th. At least that's what Robert was mentioning.

If you're working near Chai Thai, there are several other great places to check out.

Thanks Lexdevil and Robert. I was replying to both posts and just grouped it under Robert's reply.

I work in the FiDi so Thai Thai is the closest for me until I can try Chai Thai and the rest. It's a simple dish, but just haven't seen it on too many menus and am excited to try it out!

Here's the topic on Thai Thai, no report on that dish, just a question about what some untranslated dishes were:
