Good Bakery or Deli?

  • 2

We'll be in NYC for a week over Christmas, staying at the Affinia Dumont (150 East 34th). We will have a small kitchen and would like to eat all breakfasts (and maybe some lunches) "in". Can someone recommend a good bakery and/or deli within the general area of our hotel (e.g., within 6 blocks or less)? Thanks so much. MaineDon

  1. That area is a bit of a food wasteland. Not many worthwhile places- restaurants, deli, bakeries or any really decent food shopping. The 2nd Avenue Deli is pretty close ( 33 -bwt Lex and 3rd)i - you can get their pastrami and prepared items to go, and good breakfasts. Todaro Brothers on 2nd Ave bwt 30-31 is a niec, but pricey, gourmet specialty store.

Ann900. With your use of the term "food wasteland", you have confirmed my impression from the internet: we will not be in a great area of the City for food purchases (either in restaurants or deli's).......but that's okay. I can haul in our muffins or bagels from other venues. Thanks for your response and we are really looking forward to our Christmas week in NYC.
