Visiting Manhattan again in May and really want to have a great dinner with friends in Little Italy..... any recommendations?

I'm afraid they'd all be memorable, and not in the way you are seeking. Our experiences have been that the restaurants in what is left of Little Italy are all very touristy and serve mediocre food.
There are quite a number of wonderful Italian restaurants in Manhattan, but unfortunately, none are in Little Italy.

Don't let others influence you and spend your money so easily......If you really want to eat in Little Italy, here's a few for you to consider.

I'm sorry but I tried to give Il Cortile a chance and it was just downright unenjoyable. That was one of my worst meals in the city.
On the other hand, Peasant has gotten great reviews
