Now there are 4 chains on that block. On a happier note, yesterday we were in the Japonaise Bakery on Beacon and they had signs up advertising their new place at 1022 Comm Ave. I got the impression it was open but have not checked it out. We asked them if it would mirror the Beacon St set-up and menu and they said yes but there would be more indoor seating. (I remember when it was Blackbird Bakery, a spot I loved and still miss.) I haven't had a chance to stop in and check it out yet. I hear you on the proliferation of chains in the area, but it does seem that there is more street life on that part of Comm Ave with the addition of Upper Crust, Panera, and now Chipotle.
