Chipotle and Japonaise Bakery

  • 9

I was in the Starbucks on Comm Ave near St. Paul today and heard that Chipotle Grill is moving in next door. Now there are 4 chains on that block. On a happier note, yesterday we were in the Japonaise Bakery on Beacon and they had signs up advertising their new place at 1022 Comm Ave. I got the impression it was open but have not checked it out. We asked them if it would mirror the Beacon St set-up and menu and they said yes but there would be more indoor seating.

  1. Yes, Japonaise has opened in the space that had most recently been Kapow. (I remember when it was Blackbird Bakery, a spot I loved and still miss.) I haven't had a chance to stop in and check it out yet. The space itself definitely has lots more room, and more of a cafe vibe.

Stopped by Japonaise the other day on Comm Ave. They are open and serving pretty much everything you can get on Beacon.

What is Chipotle replacing? I hear you on the proliferation of chains in the area, but it does seem that there is more street life on that part of Comm Ave with the addition of Upper Crust, Panera, and now Chipotle.

I don't think Chipotle is replacing anything - I believe it's going into part of the building that used to house the dialysis center (along with Panera and the Upper Crust?)

Really? Allstonian, I know you know this area better than anybody, but I can't think of an empty space next to Panera or Upper Crust. I think those restaurants took over the entire dialysis space? No?

Now that I think about it I believe you're right. It looks like they gave a street address of 876 Comm. Ave. when applying for licenses, but that number doesn't even exist - the closest to that is the Ski Market at 878.

It's the adjacent empty storefront.to Starbucks going out of town. They had torn up the sidewalk and fenced it off and were working inside the building.so I asked what was going on.

The reason there's a lot more foot traffic is the BU Student Village nearby, which these places are there to service...

      2. Dude, I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but I hope you appreciate the irony of your post since you were standing inside a Starbucks. Otherwise, your post is just weird.
