Where to go near Logan ?

Jimbosox04 Nov 2, 2009 05:50 AM

My girlfriend is landing in Boston at 7:30 this Saturday at Logan and I am looking for somewhere to go for a bite to eat, thinking casual without needing reservations. North End for Italian ? She also likes Thai food but not to familiar with any places. Any and all recomendations are welcome. Please tell me why you recommend and price range if possible. Thanks in Advance !!

That Peruvian place in Eastie - Rincon Limeno or something like that - gets a lot of good press.

Are you T-ing it or picking her up by car? What part of town do you live in, in case there is some good stuff nearby?

yes, rincon limon, for ceviche and excellent peruvian style fried fish. also angela's for mexican. both easily done for less than $25 pp with drinks. santarpio's is over there ofr pizza. it has its fans and detractors, but is an institution and will have a major line on a saturday night. also cheap.

there are 10 million threads on here for the north end, many places do not takes rezzies and there will be massive lines on a saturday at prime time.

In Eastie on Saratoga, there's Rino's for old school Italian. 2 can eat and have wine for around $50.

I have decided on Strega @ 379 Hanover Street, any feedback ? I am also having flowers delivered right to the table by flowerpeddles.com, just wondering if anyone has been to Strega and/or used this flower delivery service. I am hoping that this goes off without a hitch and my night is perfect for my lady and myself. I will keep you all informed on how it went.

Hey Jimbo. I liked Strega - it's got a unique atmosphere with the gangster movies playing and the lit yellow panels along the other wall. Kinda swanky, funky, but it works well.

Reasonable prices, decent-sized portions, great service, really good food.

Thanks for your reply. I have read mixed reviews about this place so I guess I just need to form my own. I am sure it will be great and my lady will be thrilled, she has no clue about it, we will be arriving by limo and she will also have flowers delivered right to the table, so I guess the whole restaurant thing is just a technicality in a perfect evening :)

How did you arrive at this place? I think it's a hideous room and the food is mediocre and overpriced.

I think you should maybe look around the north end a little more maybe carmen or prezza if price is not an issue I think preeza taranta or mamma maria

I agree. Why the OP would pick a place w/less than favorable reviews for its food, among other things, for such a supposedly important event escapes me. Excellent foodwise, Mama Maria's romantic ambiance or Prezza's sleek elegance might be better choices-but it's probably too late. If it's the bang of flashy, pseudo-Italo atmosphere that's desired, then S would probably work.

far better places, imo, especially for what sounds like a very special evening. with a limo and flowers as part of the mix, why are you forgoing reservations?

Jimbo, It sounds like the overall event is primary for you and your lady.

Limo, flowers...you're clearly going to a lot of effort. Do it right and make a res and tell them it's a special occassion. You don't want to walk in and be told there's an hour wait.

Strega will treat you well and make it a memorable evening.

                    Congratulations in order?..:)

i went to strega two years ago for a birthday dinner and had a horrible time. the food was bland and overpriced and the gory mobster movie playing on the multiple flat screen televisions along on the wall did nothing to add to the experience. i strongly suggest you consider some of the other restaurants recommended on this thread
