Daytrip to Kauai-Need your best recs
Your Honorable UES Mayor arriving Dec. 30th just for the whole day of leisurely fun. Arriving in Lihue and want to start off with great breakfast. Location should be on the way to Waimea canyon as that is designation for the morning. After that any suggestions for late lunch welcome as we will be making our way back to Lihue for flight back to Honolulu. Mahalo!

If you want a standard breakfast place, you could try Kalaheo Cafe and Coffee Company in Kalaheo. You could also try the Kauai Bakery in Lihue -- just for malasadas. It isn't really sit-down but at least has that one item.
Two options for lunch are Mark's Place in Lihue, and Koloa Fish Market in Koloa. Mark's has a very tasty lunch plate with lots of options - many say it's the best plate lunch on the island. Koloa Fish Market has incredible laulau and might be the single best taste I had while I was there.

I would have breakfast at the Grand Hyatt Kauai at Iliani Terrace..they have a breakfast that will last you all day..
They have a great buffet or off the menu..views of the ocean/lagoon with open air ocean breezes.
Loved the smoked salmon with capers and the made to order omelettes with shrimp/avocado and cheese..they serve yellow watermelon that is out of this world good and passion fruit juice.
There is the Lodge at the top of the mountain past Waimea Canyon that you could go for a late lunch or you can head down to the place for the famous coconut shrimp at Shrimp Station in Waimea..on the main road a couple blocks from the ocean.
Aloha to the honorable UES Mayor

You should stop at Tip Top for breakfast in Lihue. It is on Akahi St, which intersects Ahukini and Hardy St. They have good mac nut pancakes and are reasonably priced.
