My sister and I live in Manhattan and our Mom is coming this weekend to visit. We're looking for a mid-priced restaurant for dinner this Saturday. We live in the East Village but are open to going anywhere. Something relatively new with a fun atmosphere. She doesn't drink so that doesn't really have to be part of the consideration. Any ideas you have would be great, sorry for the slightly vague request!

One of my all time favorite mom-tastic places is Five Points. Go there all the time w/my own mom and she loves it and is always talking about it. Plus, quick walk from the EV.

I'm a mom and I'd definitely second the vote for Five Points. I'm a fan of Mermaid Inn, Pylos and I Coppi, too.

When I brought my parents to NY, we went to Giorgio's of Gramercy and they loved it. If you go on a Sunday night, your sister and you can have a bottle of wine with 15$ off. It is laid back with good food.

Fun, mid-priced: Momofuku Ssam Bar. She can have excellent ginger beer there, too, if she wants a good non-alcoholic (well, less than 0.5% alcohol) beverage. Another alternative: Cacio e Vino, but it might be a bit louder. Neither place is really new, but I think both are hip. And if you don't mind considering a place that's been around longer than both, throw Supper into the mix. I think Ssam Bar is more consistently high-quality than the other two places, though I like all three (I'd probably rate them Ssam Bar, Supper, Cacio e Vino, in terms of general quality).
