Really good wings a Makkah (1020 Danforth)

grandgourmand Nov 1, 2009 02:36 PM

I was in there a week ago and had the $4.49 kebab sandwich. A good little meal there. Went again and ordered some curries, which turned out to be just above average. But what caught my eye was the 12-wing, tandoori style for $6 or $7 (I forget). A pretty good price. The flavour is excellent. Anything out of that tandoor, actually, is pretty tasty. The tandoor is charcoal fired (Basque hardwood lump, no less) and imparts extra flavour you don't get at most places that use gas fired tandoors.

They have a $13.99 pickup whole tandoor chicken that I plan on trying ot later this week. It comes with 2 Naan.

almost everything from makkah is good. the tandoor quail is amazing as is the channa masala. the pulao can be a litle greasy, but still delish.

Try the Bihari kebab. Melt in your mouth spicy, beefy goodness.

My view on Makkah is that the curries are ok, slightly above average. But anythign from that tandoor is excellent, mostly because of the charcoal flavour.

Like I said earlier, the wings are really good. And I have since ordreed the whole tandoori chicken for $14 (incl. 2 naan). Flavour was great...the problem is, the chicken is a bit scrawny. So it's not a good deal compared to, say, a portuguese chicken place. But still, it was good, all things considered.

I've been passing by this place in the car for ages but never went in as I assumed it was a kebab place. I went in today and saw they even have seafood, which is what I'm interested in. I ordered a tandori fish (pomfret) with a naan and salad for $6.99, or just under $7 with tax. I took it home and ate it there, it was very good. I'm going back soon to try the $5 lamb curry as it looked good.
