New Asian Market in Hartford
We just visited the "Five Farmers" Vietnamese/Chinese market off of Flatbush Avenue, near West Hartford in the Wal-Mart plaza.
It's a tiny little place. They had a token bakery in the front which also sells Vietnamese jellies and sandwiches. There's roast duck, roast pork, and soy sauce chicken hanging in a glass cabinet. The prices for the roast meats are lower than their nearby competitor.
Vegetables and fruits are the usual culprits (*huge* Durian for sale for $2-$3 a pound) and priced competitively.
When we visited they'd not yet stocked their fish nor meat counters -- that's how new the place is.
I'm used to the A. Dong market and stores in Flushing, NY -- very large ones. Five Farmers is a small store, but they carry all of the Asian market necessities, sauces, condiments, noodles, etc.
I'll report back here after we try some of the roast meats...
