We will be in NYC for the Christmas Holiday this year. As Brits I need to find a really good organic turkey for Christmas Day- do any of you have recommendations?
Thanks, Nicola

Whole Foods in Chelsea

I agree that Whole Foods would be the easiest. If you're more adventurous you could try the farmer's market. But then you'd have to lug a turkey from Union Square or one of the other locations over to Chelsea.

I would check with Whole Foods to verify. I don't recall seeing a whole turkey at the Union Square Whole Foods outside of Thanksgiving. I was there two nights ago and had a quick look around and all I saw was whole chickens and turkey breast.

There are a couple butchers on ninth or tenth avenue in the lower thirties from which you should be able to order good turkeys. I'm sorry, but I can't remember their names.

You can order a whole free range turkey, either heritage or "not" from Quattro Farms at the Union Square Greenmarket. They are there and take orders on Saturday (17th Street Side) or you can place your order by phone: (845) 635-8202
They are the best turkeys I've ever had the pleasure of preparing and eating. ;)

You can also order free range turkey from Tamarack Hollow Farms at the Union Square market on Wednesdays and Fridays. They are now taking orders for Thanksgiving. Great bacon from there, too.
I think you can do much better than Whole Foods.

Thanks, that's great. I have Union Square Greenmarket on my list so will definitely give Quattro a call and pre-order.
