My family's enjoyed Royal Rivieras from H&D for many years - all but their frequent near-over-ripeness on arrival and their high cost. The internet led me to understand that Royal Riviera pears ARE Comice pears, and I thought I'd try my luck going direct this year. I'm game to check out upscale markets, Pike Place vendors, any good source that anyone can suggest. Thanks all! I haven't been by a MM in the past few weeks, but last year, the pears were huge and gorgeous and really juicy and flavorful.
