BRIARCLIFF AREA RESTAURANTS?

We have been very disappointed with Terra Rustica in Briarcliff and are looking for a great restaurant in the Briarcliff area. It can be a neighboring town. It is for a couples birthday dinner... and can be formal or casual. All info is welcomed.

Thanks for your response.

Try the Briars. Its on the same road like T R. The food is very good and the prices very reasonable. They have a new "lodge like" dinning room. aND they FINALLY rennovated the old room!!!! It really looks very nice and clean.

Good idea, except for their ANNOYING no reservations policy. I'd be willing to give them a deposit on my credit card to guarantee I'll show up - I'm a grown up and stand by my work. But standing outside before they open at 5pm like petitioners (in the rain/snow/sleet) demeans the experience of what, in my opinion, is a very good restaurant. Not sure that's an ideal "couples birthday" moment...

Any thoughts on Goldfish in Ossining for this OP? We've only been once, for the weeknight prix fixe ($15 Mon-Weds), but haven't been otherwise. Was good quality for prix fixe - but not of the caliber of Zeph's or Ocean House.

Peter Pratt's Inn might do the trick, too.

Ditto, the Boathouse, in Ossining. Have had a couple of nice meals there, too.

Just had MY birthday dinner at Peter Pratt's and thoroughly enjoyed it--everything we had was delicious.

Thank you! We had appetizers of foie gras brulee and pizza with duck prosciutto and arugula; mains of local (!!) venison and duck breast and...what I particularly love...small dessert plates---plantain pie and chocolate lava cake. Love the food, service, atmosphere--only ongoing complaint is the overpriced vino....

How about Flames in Briarcliff? I've always enjoyed it (but haven't been in over a year).

Kiltte House in Chappaqua also has a new chef and they remodeled, I went in Sept and was really impressed

try Paese Pizza in the town of Briarcliff. Ostensibly just a pizza place but so much more. The daily specials are killer as well as most of the regular menu. As for the pizza I don't think I've ever had it cause the real food is so unbelievable. Don't let the decor throw you it might not look fancy but the food is as good as many far showier joints in Westchester and the NYC

I'll second the recos for Red Hat and Iron Horse--great atmosphere, wonderful food.

Re Paese Pasta, as good as the food may be I would be disappointed in the ambience for a birthday dinner. If it was just going out on a Saturday night it would be fine. Also the pizza is mediocre, so you can definitely skip pizza there.

ok i admit to a dooooh moment, I guess I read the post fast and had half an eye on the World Series and failed to notice the mention of a B-Day so maybe Paese isn't such a good choice (but the food is still great). Try Zeph's in Peekskill if it's not to far away. you can all stop snickering now, LOL

Explanation accepted and no snickering here!
Just wanted to also say I had an amazing dinner at Equus but double-check the menu prices since I recall it was pretty expensive. (Ok now no snickering on me because when I went to Equus last April, I got the impression here that it was considered like One if By Land 2 If by Sea, if you get my drift; BUT it was very good!!)

Hi CityGirl, 1st you tagged the wrong restaurant in your link. I live in Briarcliff and was very disappointed in Terra Rustica, too. I would recommend Haven or Iron Horse Grill in Pleasantville for a couple's birthday dinner. I took hubby to Haven for his bday and we did Iron Horse Grill for our anniversery one year. We were not disappointed. There was a little wait for our table at Iron Horse but they graciously gave us free drinks at the bar so it was not a big deal.
