I've visiting some friends in LA over the holidays. My husband used to live in the area and now that we live in NY- he complains about the lack of good mexican food- (I agree) We're looking for a fun - hip place to get some great food- We have a car and price really isn't an issue. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

What a great addition.

The only thing I'll say is that "hip" doesn't describe many of these places. The "hip" Mexican restaurants in heavily-visited parts of LA don't tend to have much in the way of great food (hello there, Mexicali in Studio City).

The two "hip" Mexican-ish places I can think of that haven't been mentioned are Rivera and Frida, neither of which I have been to, so I can't give you a personal recommendation (sorry—"hip" usually means expensive, and I don't have the money to eat like that).

I've had some quite excellent al pastor and some good entrees, not to mention excellent drinks, at Yxta Cocina Mexicana downtown, or go for La Huasteca or Babita, both of which are in extremely un-hip locations but are cute and/or neat inside.

Happy eating!

Thanks for your reply- I probably should have left "hip" out of my question- I'd much rather have good food - cheaper is always best :)
