Hi,
This is a different request from my previous post --a friend from New York is coming to town on a Sunday night and he likes good food, but also wants a place that will be busy with good energy. We tried Scampo on his last visit and while the food was great, the place wasn't exactly bustling. That being said, I'm not sure there are that many other places that could fit the bill. A few I've thought of: Sorrellina (food-wise, this is right up his alley, but will it be empty?); Market (since it's just opened i've heard nothing about the food but my guess is it will be filled with "fabulous" people, which he'll like.) Any other thoughts/ideas? Money is no object, which is nice :)

TIA.

you must've been at Scampo during lunchtime? nowadays during dinner it is busy to the point of being deafening. not sure about Sundays though, which is probably a quiet night at most places...you can always sit at the chefs counter at Craigie and watch the kitchen action...

We went to Scampo on a Sunday night with him, exactly a year ago. I think it was a good choice....but it wasn't that busy...relatively quiet, actually. It is, however, what comes first to mind when thinking of a spot with good food/good vibe. But I'd like to bring him to a different spot this year, if possible.
I think it's a tall order to find a busy spot on a Sunday in Boston....but hoping hounds can prove me wrong. n :)

sunday is generally quiet for all fine-dining. even moreso with the craptastic economy.

market was of course packed opening night, but all those fabulous folks tend to rest their feet on sundays.

although i'm not really a fan, the bar at mistral might work, or perhaps at union.

We did a recent Sunday dinner at Hammersley's several weeks ago and it was wonderful. The place was full by 7. It's a more subdued ambiance, not a big see and be seen scene. But the food, room and service were all lovely.

When I was back in Boston in August, we went to Craigie on Main on a Sunday night with a couple of friends. We had excellent food (and drink) and the room was quite busy and energetic. The only thing is that the crowd was a bit more "Cambridge" than downtown/South End/NYC "fabulous", but I thought the vibe was good.

What about Toro?

Delicious food and they always seem have an energy and a buzz no matter what night of the week!

Yeah, i think both Toro and Craigie are good recs...in fact, I know Craigie will be busy then b/c believe it or not they are already booked (at least on open table) I will try and give them a call to see if maybe they can make some room.
And Toro is great, but I'd prefer a spot where we could make a reservation, vs having to stand around waiting for a table. We'll be at least 4 people, maybe 6.

yes Craigie seems to sometimes have openings even if opentable indicates otherwise...also if you arrive when they open, you can often get walk-in seats
