There has been discussion of this elsewhere--this is the one near South Beach boardwalk that replaced that Vietnam vet bar-- but no one has yet to go as far as I can see. So I went. And, its not bad. Not only that, it's good. Elegant. A somewhat refined version of Turkish food. Fresh bread baked in the very hot pizza oven. A hot appetizer platter with grilled liver, fried calamari, falafel, a marinara sauce and a tahini sauce. and cigar shaped meat stuffed pastries. Lamb kebabs make with hand chopped--not ground--lamb.

So good food. A little expensive.

As for Flaco's intriguing suggestion that it is not really a Turkish restaurant but from one of the "stan" countries, the old southeaster SSRs, its not clear. There was a lot of Russian being spoken there, but one of the owners appeared to be one of the Pakistanis from My Deli on Narrows Road between Targee and Richmond.

And also, be warned that if you hate being forced to watch TV while you eat, the main dining room has no less than four TVs--and its small. No sound just pictures. The other dining room is nicer but it does have odd lighting that cycles through various colors. Annoying for some but OK for me since the food was so great.

And the music is not too loud and appears to be Turkish, not the banal 02.7 light FM that assaults us in so many stores and restaurants. The volume of background music has gone up many decibels in the past five years, probably because the I-Pod generation can't be without music. There outta be a law.

I concur about Seaside after a couple of take out experiences... wrote about it on the other thread.

BTW, I thinks it was you BMartin who mentioned that Russian deli up on Sand & McClean? Went there today and bought chicken dumplings, Baltic deep fried sardines and some duck legs. Awesome! Also got several bottles of fresh Czech beer that was very reasonably priced.

So Polish Delicious is down by the beach on Sand and International Deli (Russian) is farther up the street, with mock Turkish (Seaside) just around the corner, not to bad for South Beach! And don't forget La Canasta for Mexican...

Yes, I mentioned the Russian deli--we have been getting our salmon caviar from there and I make buckwheat blini for it. Plus if you spend enought money, they will give you a free bar of dark chocolate. There are other good meat pastries there plus a kind of gefilte fish that is good. Its not Nova or Net Cost, but for its size it is pretty good.

You left out Chinar by the way--and, of lesser importance but still good, the liquor store that is in the same strip as the Polish deli and has a very good collection of single malt scotch.
